This document is not ready to publish

The registered company name, address and governing jurisdiction have not been set, and this text has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Set LEGAL_ENTITY in apps/web/src/features/legal/content.ts and have the documents reviewed before launch.

We collect what we need to run lessons, verify teachers and take payment — and no more. Lesson video and audio are never recorded. Card details never reach our servers. Teacher identity documents are seen only by our review team.

1. Who is responsible for your data

the company operating Raed is responsible for the personal information described here. For anything in this policy, including a request to see, correct, export or delete your data, write to [email protected].

2. What we collect

Everyone with an account:

  • Your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a cryptographic hash — we never hold the password itself and cannot read it.
  • Optionally, and only if you provide them: date of birth, gender, country, phone number, the languages you speak, your time zone and a profile photo.
  • What you do on the platform: lessons booked and attended, your progress through the Quran, notes and annotations from your lessons, and messages you exchange with your teacher.
  • Payment records: the amount, status and our payment provider's reference. Not your card number.
  • Technical data: your IP address (used to rate-limit sign-in and sign-up against abuse), your device type and app version, and crash diagnostics.
  • Anything you send us in a bug report, including screenshots you choose to attach.
  • If you report or block another user: who you reported, the reason you chose and any note you added. Reports are reviewed by our team and are not shown to the person reported. Blocks stop the two of you messaging or calling each other.

3. What we collect from teachers

Because students trust us to check who is teaching them, applying to teach requires more:

  • A photo of your government identification, and the reverse side where your document has one.
  • A live selfie, which we compare against that identification.
  • A recitation sample, so we can assess how you recite.
  • Optionally, an ijazah certificate, if you are applying for the Premium badge.
  • Your teaching profile: rate, subjects, languages and available hours.

4. Lessons are not recorded

Lesson video and audio are streamed live between you and your teacher and are not recorded or stored by Raed.

The one exception is a recitation clip deliberately recorded during a lesson so it can be reviewed afterwards. Those are stored, and are visible to you and your teacher.

5. Why we use it

  • To run your lessons: scheduling, the lesson room, reminders, progress and notes.
  • To keep the platform trustworthy: verifying teacher identity and recitation, and investigating reports.
  • To take payment and issue refunds under the published policy.
  • To contact you about your account — verification codes, password resets, booking confirmations and important service notices.
  • To keep the service secure and working: rate-limiting abuse, and diagnosing crashes.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers that make the service work, each acting on our instructions:

  • Stripe and Polar — payment processing. They receive your payment details directly.
  • Resend — sending email such as verification codes and booking confirmations.
  • Agora — carrying the live audio and video of a lesson.
  • Amazon Web Services (S3) — storing uploaded files, including verification documents and profile photos. These are stored privately and served only through short-lived links.
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting, configured not to send personal data by default.
  • Our hosting provider, which runs the API and database.

7. Who can see what

  • Your teacher sees your name, profile photo, the lessons you book with them, your progress and notes for those lessons, and your messages.
  • Other students never see your contact details.
  • Teacher verification documents — identification and selfie — are visible only to Raed's review team. They are never shown to students and never appear on a public profile.
  • We may disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.

8. How long we keep it

We keep your account and its associated records for as long as your account is open.

Some records outlive account closure where we are required to keep them — payment and tax records in particular.

You can delete your account yourself in the app, under Account → Delete account, or by writing to [email protected]. Deletion removes your name, contact details, photo, profile and sign-in; payment and tax records are kept, without your personal details, for as long as the law requires. See the Delete your account page for exactly what is removed and what is kept.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to receive a copy of it, and to object to certain uses.

Much of it you can change yourself in the app under Account. For anything else, write to [email protected].

10. Children

Raed accounts are for adults: you must be at least 18 to hold one. Children learn through a parent or guardian's account.

A parent or guardian may create a child profile (minimum age 3) to book and manage that child's lessons. A child profile has no password and cannot sign in on its own — it exists only under the parent's account, and the parent is the one who agrees to these terms on the child's behalf.

We collect what a child profile needs for lessons to work — name, date of birth, lesson history, teacher feedback and homework, and recitation recordings the teacher makes during class. This is collected from and controlled by the parent, not from the child directly, and it is never used to let a teacher or anyone else contact the child outside a scheduled lesson.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child who is not attached to a parent's account. If you believe a child has created an account of their own, tell us and we will remove it.

11. Where your data is held

Raed is used around the world, and the providers listed above operate internationally. Your information may therefore be processed in a country other than your own, under contractual protections with those providers.

12. Changes

If we change this policy materially we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect, and record the version you were shown.
